Leila Mae Thompson, 91, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 7, 2025 at the SECU Hospice House in Smithfield, North Carolina.
Leila was born in Douglas, Arizona, the second of three children born to William Claude Huish Jr. and Ora Mae Schwantes. She was raised in Elfrida, Arizona, where she met the love of her life, Angus H. Thompson. They were married in the Mesa Arizona Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and built a life together, raising three children. Her life journey took her to Emmett, Idaho and Seattle, Washington before Leila spent her final years surrounded by family in Raleigh, North Carolina.
A devoted wife, mother and grandmother, Leila lived a life centered around faith and family. She worked as a dedicated kindergarten teacher's aide and was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was an accomplished baker, crafter, gardener and had a special fondness for raising chickens.
Leila was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Angus Thompson and her brother, Carl Huish. She is survived by her eldest brother, Claude Henry Huish; her three children, Stephen, Kevin and Alissa; eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, March 15, 2025 at 10AM at Whitewater Cemetery in Elfrida, AZ.
